North East India Biking Tour 9N & 10D

Overview

Northeast India is a land of natural gifts with beautiful mountains and river valleys. The mountainous region offers long-distance routes and tracks for off road riders. The ride on the hills crossing villages of different tribes and races, rivers and mountains, and through forest and parks gives unique experiences for visitors.


The rich flora and fauna of the region also enthuse visitors of nature lovers and adventurers. The North East, with still many of its regions unexplored has become a biodiversity hot-spot and is an upcoming tourist destination.


This Biking trip will not only take you to the off beaten tracks and far flung areas but you will also get a chance to explore and experience the natural areas with authentic information of the local culture and people.

Itinerary

Day 1:- Dimapur-Kohima (74 km 2.5 hrs)

Meet your guide at Dimapur Airport followed by a short briefing! Surface transfer (by car) OR biking enroute stop at some local vegetable market.

Day 2:- Kohima – Maram- Khullen- Willong (95 km)

Morning bike till Kisama, the heritage village, which is 12 km on good paved road, to visit tribal morungs and II World War Museum. Next bike for 4 kms to Jakhama village. Thereafter bike for another 18 km Khuzama village where we will have a tea break. Thereafter, bike and drive to Maram-Khullen village where local lunch shall be served. Post lunch we shall bike towards Willong village. Enroute we shall stop at Sangkhumai village for a cup of tea. Later bike 4/5 km to Willong village


O/N Willong village Home Stay.

Day 3:- Willong- Benreu(110 km)

Today we shall bike for 15 km on gentle slope paved road and stop at Yankhullen village. We shall hike up to the village for about 1 km and visit the village, meet the locals, interact with them.

Later bike to Bake village 8 km explore the village on foot. Continue biking for another 12 km on gentle slope road to Zuimi village. Next visit “Haraka church/Temple” and their abandoned site.

Bike for 20 km on gentle slope to Tangpung village. Next bike downhill on bad/ rough road for about 13 km and bike uphill for about 8 km to Peren town. Local lunch on arrival. Post lunch bike for 22 km to Pedi village on a gentle slope road, stop for a brief visit. Next bike for 12 km on rough road to Benreu village, out of these 12 km about 4 km of the road are quite bad and uphill.

Day 4:- Benreu (Mt. Pauna)

Today we have the option to go hiking to the 3rd highest mountain of Nagaland which stands at an altitude of 2500 m above sea level. It is regarded as “nature museum”. The hike is of 4/5 km somehow challenging with uneven gradients. Picnic lunch. Hike back the same trail to Benreu village. Evening traditional show.


Day 5:- Benreu- Khonoma 75 km

Today we shall bike to Poilwa village which is about 30 km on narrow and winging road (very less traffic). On arrival we shall explore Poilwa village,

Bike for about 15 km to Dzuleke village, About 5 km is uphill (not difficult) NB:- Depending on the season, we shall go traditional fishing which will be followed by picnic lunch by the river side. Post lunch we shall bike for 5 km gentle uphill, have a break to see and feed “Mithun” with salt. It is the state animal, semi domesticated; despite of its huge size they are gentle so one can feed them with salt! Continue biking where we shall breath clean thin air releases from virgin forest! We come across Alder based cultivation area and evergreen forest.

O/N Khonoma Homestay

Day 6:- Khonoma- Tuophema (65 km)

Today we shall bike for 20 km to Kohima on gentle slope road, the capital city of Nagaland. Visit Jakahama village, Kisama village, WW II Cemetery , local market followed by lunch and Post lunch we shall bike gentle downhill to Tuophema village about 20 km and other 25 km are half uphill and gentle slope.

Day 7:- Tuophema- Mokokchung (120 km)

Today we shall bike to Mokokchung, home town of the Ao Naga, enroute visit Tseminyu village which is 17 km on gentle slope. Next bike for another 25 km to Longsa village, lunch at Wokha. Post lunch we shall bike for another 20 km downhill and later uphill to Longkhum village, visit the village on foot, meet locals, tea break, bike on to Mokokchung


NB:- Traffic may be a little busy!

Day 8:- Mokokchung

Today we shall visit some Ao village on bike. Bike to Impur village which is 15 km from Mokokchung town, visit Museum and bike to Mopungchuket village explore the village. Later bike to Chami village and Sungratsu village and bike back to your Hotel 


O/N Hotel Metsuben or similar.

Day 9:- Mokokchung- Sibsagar (145 km)

Today we shall bit farewell to the hills and bike towards the plain. Bike for 35km and visit Chuchu village on gentle slope road, traffic may be a little busy. Next continue biking to Amguri mostly on downhill.

Continue biking to Sibsagar, the legendary city, on good paved road, traffic will be busy. Visit temples and Ahom palace, museum, etc.

Day 10:- Sibsagar- Dibrugarh (77 km

)

Today we bike to Dibrugarh town, enroute stop at market, tea garden. Proceed to airport and connect your flight for onward journey.
