Overview

Itinerary

DAY 1. Aizawl

Pick up from Lengpui Airport.  Proceed to Aizawl. Check in to Hotel.  In the evening, if weather permits drive to Durtlang/Zemabawk for "Aizawl by Night" view.

 

DAY 2. Aizawl - Thenzawl

Drive to Thenzawl.  On the way stop at Falkawn  village for visit to Typical Mizo village.  Continue journey to Thenzawl. Have a short stop over in Hmuifang and visit LAD Park. In Thenzawl, visit Vantawng Falls and Tuirihiau Falls. 

 

Overnight in Thenzawl Tourist Lodge.

 

DAY 3. Thenzawl - Vanlaiphai

After breakfast, proceed to North Vanlaiphai.  You will driving through scenic areas.  There will be two rivers you will have to cross - Tuichang and Tuipui. Very good places for photographs.

 

Reach North Vanlaiphai and overnight in Tourist Lodge.

 

DAY 4. Vanlaiphai - Khawvbung

In North Vanlaiphai, visit the local Park and the British era Hospital which was constructed in 1913.  Incidentally, this hospital was targeted by Japanese bombing during World War II. 

 

Continue journey to Khawvbung and overnight in Tourist Lodge.

 

Day 5. Khawvbung-Zokhawthar

Visit the nearby Hlakungpui Mual (Poets Square). Then drive towards Vanngchia.  On the way stop at Dungtlang to visit Lianchhiari Lung Leng Tlang. Continue journey to Vangchhia.  In Vangchhia,visit the old megaliths of Kawtchhuah Ropui (The Great Gateway).  The site has been designated as one of National Importance by the Archeological Survey of India. After making a complete visit, drive to Zokhawthar for overnight stay in Tourist Lodge.

 

Day 6. Zokhawthar - Champhai

Zokhawthar is the last Indian town along the Indo-Myanmar border.  The river Tiau is the international boundary.  Cross over to visit Rih Dil (Lake). This heartshaped lake is very important to the Mizo.  It is believed that the spirits of the dead have to cross this lake. Return and proceed to Champhai for overnight halt.

 

Day 7. Champhai

Day for local sightseeing in and around Champhai.  Champhai is the district capital.  There are a number of sites which are connected to the legends and folk lore of the Mizo - Mangkhaia Lungphun, Mura Puk, etc.

 

Overnight in Champhai.

 

Day 8. Champhai - Kawlkulh

After breakfast, drive to Chawngtlai village.  Chawngtlai has declared themselves as Historical Village.  The village claims that there a numerous artifacts and monuments of the old Mizo.  This is the village established by the great chief Nikuala. The old Mizo warriors had the practice of taking the heads of their enemies and hanging them from a special tree called Sahlam.  The only surviving tree is still preserved in Chawngtlai.

 

Overnight in Tourist Lodge Kawlkulh.

 

Day 9. Kawlkulh - Aizawl

After breakfast, start journey for Aizawl.  On the way, take diversion to visit Tam Dil (lake). Then continue journey to Aizawl. Overnight in Aizawl.

 

Day 10. Aizawl – Reiek

After leisurely breakfast, drive to Reiek village.  On the way stop at Ailawng to visit Khuangchera Puk (Cave).  It is possible to go through this cave and come out on the otherside.  However, you will need a change of clothes as you can get very dirty.  Park the vehicle in Tourist Lodge and take a short hike to the peak for a wonderful 360 degree panoramic view of the surrounding areas. 

 

Overnight in Tourist Lodge, Reiek.

 

Day 11. Reiek - Aizawl

After breakfast, local sightseein in Aizawl. Visit State Museum, Solomons's Temple, Big Drum, K V Paradise, etc.

 

Overnight in Aizawl.

 

Day 12. Aizawl - Out

After breakfast, proceed to Lengpui Airport for onward journey
