Manipur

Manipur is one of the oldest state in North East India. It is bounded by Nagaland state in the north, Assam and Burma lie on the western and eastern part, and south by Mizoram. Manipur has a total area of 22,347 square kilometers. Imphal is the capital city of Manipur.  Manipur enjoys its own individual identity with vigorous enthusiasm. This are seen in in the martail arts Thang-ta and Sarit- Sarak. Its artistic leanings are visible in its graceful Ras Leela dance from the intricate hand-woven shawls. 


Surrounded by blue hills , with an  oval shaped valley at the centre, rich in art and tradition  and surcharged  with  nature’s  pristine  glory. Manipur lies on a melting pot of culture. It is birth place of Polo. This is the place where Rajashree  Bhagyachandra  created the  famous Ras Lila, the classical dance of Manipur, out of his enchanting dream by the grace of Lord Krishna.

Manipur acts as India’s “Gateway to the East” through Moreh and Tamu towns, the land route for trade between India and Burma and other Southeast Asian countries.


The tourism industry in Manipur is on a constant rise. A majority of individuals refer to the state as the ‘land of jewels’. The fact that Polo originated in Manipur is one of the reasons as to why a majority of tourists are excited to visit the state. Manipur also has the highest number of handicrafts units and the highest number of craftspersons in the northeastern region of India.

Manipur sometimes, called Shangrila of the North East has a galaxy of natural wonders and cultural traditions to be enjoyed at its leisure. Home of colourfull people and dazzling rituals, myth and legends, lively festivals and an evocative classical dance from, matial arts and indigenous games, Manipur offers visitors a comprehensive diversity of tourist delights. The stunning environs of the Loktak Lake are a wonderful and cultural experience. Sundry wars in which the Manipuris played a role are commemorated in the INA museum and war memorials.

BY FLIGHT


There are regular flights from other major cities of the country to Imphal. Imphal is the second largest airport in the region. Imphal is connected to KOLKATA , NEW DELHI , GUWAHATI, AIZAWL , & SILCHAR by Air India, Jet Airways, Indigo and Air Asia.


BY TRAIN

NH-29 links Imphal with railhead at Dimapur in Nagaland 215 km to the north. NH 53 links Imphal with railhead at Jiribam 225 Km in the south-west.

Average Temperature:


It has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cwa) with mild, dry winters and a hot monsoon season. July temperatures average about 29 °C (84 °F); January is the coldest month, with average lows near 4 °C (39 °F). The city receives about 1,320 mm (52 in) of rain, with June the wettest month. The highest recorded temperature was 35.6 °C (96.1 °F), most recently on 22 May 2009, and the lowest average temperature was −2.7 °C (27.1 °F) on 10 January 1970.
